Equal Justice Works Stipend Application due June 1

For purposes of the Equal Justice Works Summer Stipend, “public interest law” is defined as working to represent the public by addressing the needs of people, groups, or causes not easily or effectively afforded traditional access to the justice system. This includes a multitude of different types of governmental, legal aid, and not-for-profit entities and opportunities. Students working in non-paid or low-paying public interest legal positions for the Summer are invited to apply for this financial assistance. Direct service, impact work, and public policy projects are all eligible for the EJW Summer Stipend as long as the student will be working under the supervision of an attorney. Employers can include non-profit or governmental organizations, however these grants cannot be used to fund judicial clerkships or any work for which you are receiving academic credit from Stetson or any other institution. You must have already received a job offer before applying for the stipend. The monetary amount of each stipend awarded will depend on the anticipated expenses of the applicant and the total amount of funding available for disbursement but are generally between $100-$500. Please do not rely on this stipend as the sole source of funding for your Summer. Please pay special attention to the “Commitment to Equal Justice Works” statement at the end of the application. Stipend recipients are required to make a commitment to EJW for the 2023-2024 school year in order to ensure the continued promotion of public interest legal work and the future availability of these stipends for Stetson students.
