Equal Justice Works Career Fair: Announcement for 2Ls & 3Ls

Each fall, Equal Justice Works hosts its annual Career Fair, the largest public interest career legal fair in the country. The Career Fair brings together hundreds of law students, recent graduates, and public interest employers from across the country for three days of prescheduled interviews for internships, fellowships, and full-time post-graduate positions. Additionally, students can participate in informal “table talk” with employers. 

This year, Equal Justice Works will host the event virtually. The 2023 Career Fair will take place from October 12-14, 2023, via the legal hiring platform, Flo Recruit. 250+ employers are expected to attend this year’s fair, including various Florida-based legal services organizations and public defender offices! Registration for the Career Fair is now open! Students register for the event via Eventbrite. To register, you must pay a $25 fee, which may be eligible for reimbursement by Stetson Law.

Upon registering via Eventbrite, you should receive a separate email containing your Flo Recruit login details within 1-2 business days of registering. Upon completion of your attendee profile, you’ll be able to view and apply for available positions.

  • Students must apply for prescheduled interviews by Tuesday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Students interested in signing up for “table talk” discussions must register by Tuesday, October 3 at 6:00 p.m.
  • After registering for table talk discussions, sign up for table talk times between October 6 at 2:00 p.m. and October 9 at 6:00 p.m.

The Florida Law Schools’ Consortium on Racial Justice (FLSCRJ) founded in 2020 aims to leverage the strengths of every law school in the state to assist community organizations fighting for racial justice and policy reform throughout Florida. The Consortium plans to initiate educational gatherings, conferences, and scholarly symposia, convening scholars, students, and leading practitioners to discuss, devise and propose legal reforms. The Consortium also emphasizes lawyers’ roles in advancing social and racial justice and helps law students develop the consciousness they need to speak out against inequalities.

Fellows will commit to 10 hours a week to FLSCRJ work for both the upcoming Fall and Spring semester

Essential responsibilities include: 

  • Serve as coalition builders and ambassadors for the Consortium.
  • Collaborate with the FLSCRJ Committee to identify racial justice projects, independent research and clinical/pro bono opportunities designed to promote racial justice in Florida.
  • Assist FLSCRJ and our partners with legal research, policy reform, strategic advocacy, and ways to use language to resolve conflicts and improve communication about racial issues.
  • Serve as a representative during events, conferences, and training sessions hosted by the FLSCRJ Committee.
  • Assist with preparing materials for events, conferences, and training sessions hosted by the FLSCRJ Committee.
  • Draft, edit, and cite-check works for publication.
  • Compile and prepare reports, press releases, letters, and social media messaging 
  • Performing other duties assigned by the FLSCRJ Co-Chairs.

Qualifications: 

Current JD student at Stetson Law. Must be able to multi-task, have excellent computer and video conference skills, and should be self-motivated and disciplined and able to work with minimal supervision. Should be detail-oriented and demonstrate excellent follow through with ongoing projects. A high level of organization, flexibility, judgment, and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to work as a positive team player. Should possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism are a must. Works to build an environment that promotes and facilitates the success of Diversity and Inclusive Excellence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook & Calendar, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Must be proficient in scholarly research and presentation (utilizing databases such as Google Scholar, Fast Case, and HeinOnline). Must be able to retain training and expertise in specified areas under time constraints. Must possess leadership qualities. Must demonstrate a passion for topics related to Racial Justice; Diversity, and Inclusion; and/or Social Justice.  Experience with creating social media content a plus.  Students with prior experience working legislative initiatives or within the legislature are encouraged to apply.

Interested in Racial Justice? Apply for the SPHERE Racial Justice Fellowship!

The purpose of the Racial Justice Fellows Program is to place students at the
center of efforts to create systemic change, creating a pipeline for students to
become involved in work related to antiracist policy and movements, and
racial healing and transformation. By supporting fellows financially and
programmatically, SPHERE aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders
who can help build a more just and equitable society. Students to learn about
shaping policy and systems through a racial justice lens, about mechanisms
that enable racial healing, and they work on projects in our communities. The
program requires up to 60 hours of time per semester and up to 120 hours
for a part-time six-week summer internship.

The 2022 John J. Curtin, Jr. Fellowship application deadline is Friday, March 25. Please consider applying today!

The Curtin Justice Fund Legal Internship Program is managed by the American Bar Association Commission on Homelessness and Poverty. The Commission will award a $3,500 stipend to three law school students who spend the summer months working for a bar association or legal services program designed to prevent homelessness or assist homeless or indigent clients or their advocates. The Legal Internship Program will provide much-needed legal assistance to organizations serving the under-represented and give students direct experience in a public interest forum. Through this, it aims both to help homeless clients and to encourage careers in the law that further the goals of social justice. The ideal intern will have a demonstrated interest in public interest law and experience working with people experiencing homelessness/poverty or on issues affecting them. All law students are eligible, and first year law students are encouraged to apply. The intern must commit no less than eight continuous weeks between May 1 and September 1 to the program of their choice.
