This problem-based book contains conversational textual explanations of the core areas of the UCC tested on many bar exams. It focuses on Articles 2, 3, 4, 9 and the new Article 12 with some coverage of relevant federal laws such as the Bankruptcy Code, Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and the Truth in Lending Act. It teaches students core concepts of the UCC by working through practical problems of varying difficulty. This book provides a concise yet comprehensive introduction to the Uniform Commercial Code for students and practitioners alike. In 2011, the Supreme Court of the U.S. Virgin Islands decided Banks v. International Rental & Leasing Corp. and, with that decision, introduced a new era in Virgin Islands jurisprudence that embraced a much more active role for Virgin Islands courts and a correspondingly diminished role for the American Law Institute's restatements. This Essay examines what I will call "second-generation" decisions referencing Banks with the goal of determining whether Banks and its progeny have met, or are at least in the process of meeting, "the goal of establishing 'an indigenous Virgin Islands jurisprudence "' set by the Banks court. Ultimately, this Essay concludes that this question has now been answered in the affirmative, and strongly so.
In reaching this conclusion, this Essay opens by tracking Virgin Islands courts' increased willingness to reject and modify restatement rules, increasingly clear treatment of the restatements as secondary sources, and increased willingness to adopt minority rules when doing so is the best fit for the Virgin Islands. It continues by exploring several changes in the Banks analysis over time, several reasons why courts may decline to do a Banks analysis, and several cases that demonstrate that Banks 's meaning continues to evolve.

Is there a connection between law and poetry? This anthology suggests the answer is "yes." A case or code helps to reveal what the law is. A treatise or law review article helps to reveal what the law should be. Poetry about the law, however, may be the single most effective way to connect with the human experience of the law--what it feels like to be the judge, juror, the attorney, the witness, or even the accused. In this anthology of poems, you will discover new connections between law and poetry. The anthology includes 56 poems--one for each state, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. Many are written by famous poets, while others may be unfamiliar.
This anthology was inspired by Abraham Lincoln's First Inaugural Address in 1861 where he states, "Continue to exercise all the express provisions of our National Constitution, and the Union will endure forever. . . ." As Editor Kristen Adams notes, one of the declared objects for ordaining and establishing the Constitution was "to form a more perfect Union." With this goal in mind, this anthology uses the language from the Preamble to the Constitution as a structure and framework. The collection is separated into sections using language and themes from the Preamble. Each section seeks to challenge the reader to consider how the promises and ideals of the Preamble might be fulfilled by "the better angels of our nature," and to illuminate opportunities for changes that might assist in reaching those ideals.
