DME

I can’t believe I have been interning at dme for a month now! This week I am still going over the wrapping paper designs to make sure they are perfect and ready to print. Tomorrow I should know what wrapping paper designs will be going on the gift skins website. This one project sounded like it would be a piece of cake but I learned how long the process really takes. It surly does take time and creativity to get the perfect design!  I am looking forward to finishing up project number one and moving forward with new projects.

-Pictures of my designs will  be uploaded soon 🙂

First day at Halifax

Today was my first day interning at the Halifax Humane Society. After numerous trips and volunteer work there I sort of had an idea of how it would go. I felt completely comfortable and ready to help out. While working with kids makes me slightly nervous, I found it extremely interesting to hear they’re perspectives and knowledge about the animals. Most of them surprised me with how much they knew!

We went over general veterinarian check-ups for dogs and cats and we learned special tricks on how to properly train a puppy. I can already see this internship making a huge impact on my life and who I am as a person even simply from spending time with the specific type of people who care deeply for the well-being of animals.

One of the staff members asked me today if I planned on being a veterinarian in the future, and while that was not the plan it brought me back to my very young days when it was the first job I ever wanted to do as a child, and it got the wheels turning in my head. Even though that seems wildly outlandish, who wouldn’t love spending all of their time with cute, cuddly, and fluffy pets?

Week 4 – Renegade Agent Marketing

Week 4 at Renegade Agent Marketing was completely different.  The company had a big deadline coming up for a real estate webinar pitch and one of the main bosses  needed his Powerpoint presentation finished. (It hadn’t even been started yet)  The pitch was for a 5 million dollar house so the stakes were high. I finally got to see what goes on in the conference room where they have an 11:30 meeting everyday.  My main task was to research and then explain what Retarget Marketing is and how our company uses it over others.  I had never heard of it before but I quickly learned that Retarget Marketing is basically like the Facebook ads that you see that are tailored to your interest.  When you click on anything, a cookie is installed on your computer which sends Facebook information so they can send you better ads that meet your interest.  Thats basically what our company does but with real estate.  It sounds simple but the reason a lot of companies can’t do it is because of price.  Our company spends about 5K a week on it.  Now I know why they need interns.

This was basically my pitch but summed up into keywords for powerpoint sake.  When I thought about it, I realized that I hate ads and that its really ironic that the company I worked for was part of that annoyance.   I gained a better appreciation for the technology that goes into that though. Ive always felt like Facebook was stalking me. I guess they are. Once that was done I just continued to follow the outline and bust out as many slides as i could.  Chris, the boss, really like my slides so that was a better experience than last week.  By the end of the week we had finished the powerpoint.  All 79 slides.

DME

This week at dme I will be working with Anna my mentor, we will be going over the Father’s Day wrapping paper that I created. I will be sure to upload my designs once we figure out what ones will be going on the gift skins website. This week I will also be recreating designs that we already have on the gift skins website. Some wrapping paper designs need to be updated so I will be updating and recreating some of the existing designs that we have. last week I was creating logos for the Binideck ( business cards).  This week I will be focusing on other stuff and taking a break from the logos. They still aren’t sure of the name and the person overseeing it has a very specific vision . I have been enjoying my time here and I can’t wait to see what wrapping papers will be going on the Gift-Skins website!

Week 3 – Renegade Agent Marketing

Week 3 at Renegade Agent Marketing was another learning experience.  I got some feedback for the Southern Bell Logic designs and she really liked them.  She especially like the one with the mirror and asked me if I would be interested in doing more designs after my internship was over.  I was excited to get such good feedback and make a connection that I could peruse in the future.  I let her know that I would definitely be interested in doing that.

I then started my next project which was a logo modification for a website we were building called E Shop Marketer.  The original logo had E in a shopping cart.  Sean, the website designer who was giving me advice about the Business Growth Experts logo, was not a fan of the shopping car and argued that it made it look like an online store and not a marketing strategy website.  We came up with the idea of a graduation cap on top of the E and I filled it with a woodgrain.  It looked really sharp and I was excited to show it to our boss Billy, and then… The younger brother of the owner of company came in to talk to Sean and saw me working on the logo.  Apparently he had designed the original and was upset that Billy had assigned me to make a new one.  Office drama ensued, and I was eventually taken off the task of editing the logo and put on the task of finding license free images for the website.    It was definitely a let down that we couldn’t use the new logo because Sean, Billy and I really liked it.  I guess the main take away from this week is you don’t always get what you want.

Halifax Humane Society

My life usually has a strange way of playing itself out so I usually just sit back, relax, and let the strange events unfold. With new-found anxiety attacks and stress in my last semester of Junior yea,r I found myself fully relaxed while volunteering as a cat socializer/dog walker at the Halifax Humane Society.  This resulted in the adoption of two kittens and a pit-bull. While I completely looked past it’s relevance at the time, the opportunity to intern at the Humane Society came about and I couldn’t have been more interested.

Working with animals is an extremely interesting experience. It offers a plethora of emotions while inadvertently helping the animals. caring for and playing with animals helps relieve stress and anxiety while giving the animals the attention they deserve.

I am beyond excited to begin the internship. I cannot wait to start working with and getting to know the animals and other people working in such a rewarding and important place. The joy pets bring to families and love that families bring to pets is irreplaceable. I believe this internship will open up many doors for me into the world of non-profit organization as well as careers directly involved with Humane Societies around the Country.

First day at Harman

So today was my first day at Harman as a marketing intern. It was all a little overwhelming but exciting nonetheless. There is only one other intern there (who I’m actually living with for the summer) and as a result it feels like we’re treated as equal employees with the same responsibilities and projects. I have my own (fairly large) cubicle, computer with dual screens, and soon I’ll have my own projects to complete.

The building was built last year so everything is brand new and very clean. There is a high end recording studio where they test prototype signal processing effects where I’ll be working occasionally.

I have a meeting set for tomorrow morning where I’ll get a list of current projects that need to be completed, and I can see what’s doable for me. My boss was explaining that there are a lot of different types of things that are currently lower on a priority level for the other people on the marketing team, and I’ll pick those things up. It sounds like I’ll be working with different types of audio clips, preparing stems and other files, and also doing some video editing. I will also occasionally assist the man in charge of everything that happens in the recording studio. I’ll be sitting in and helping with tracking and audio testing for new signal processing units.

DME

This week, Anna my mentor and I….will be going over my  wrapping paper designs that I have created. I still have some changes to make before I submit them and review them. I am looking forward to Anna and I discussing what designs  will be  going on the Gift Skins website. I have made five different versions of the designs that I have created! I am curious to see if they will sell. This week consist of me reviewing my art work and making sure that everything is designed perfectly and aligned with the dimensions that I was given  to work with. Also dme is in the middle of creating an easier way to carry and keep your business cards. It looks like a sticky note pad but minus the sticky part. Its almost like a tiny note book; you flip, tear and share! Anna is putting me in charge of designing the logo for this new product. This is the main project that I will be working on  this week with Anna.  I am looking forward to seeing what I come up with and if the company will approve of it.

Sincerely,

Meghan Doyle
