Week 1

During my first week at the internship, I met with whom I will work with and walked around to see the building. The two ladies I work with use their skills to work hand in hand to create media to engage the agency with the community. Brittney, my internship supervisor, handles taking photos and attending events to document for the public to see. This includes community events, drug busts, and everything in between.

First, Sarah makes all the graphic designs for LCSO. She revamped the organization’s logo and is working with a decal company to rebrand all cars and buildings. I joined her in a meeting about placing designs on all facilities and saw how businesses collaborate. She makes designs for social media posts and uses the photos Brittney takes.

After receiving a computer and my badge for the building, I started discussing what projects Sarah would give me. The first project I worked on was the post they needed for Independence Day. I used my skills in Illustrator to make the design and worked with Sarah to ensure the design met the needs of the agency’s social media posts. I used my skills in Illustrator to create the design that will be posted on the 4th of July.

Summer Internship 2023

I have gone through the onboarding process for my internship. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has many steps in order to obtain the internship. They require even more with getting prepared for the internship itself. HR gave me three calls to talk about what I needed to do. They gave me my ID number that all employees have and polos to wear on specific days of work. They also put me in direct contact with the ladies I will work with in the Digital Media department and we are all super excited for me to start. I can’t wait!

Last Post

This is my last blog post about my program. In summary, I’d say this is probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am so glad I decided to go out of my comfort zone and apply for the Disney World College Program. I have learned so many things while being here. I continue to grow more and more as a person while I am here growing my character. I have met so many people from all over the world and I am super grateful for that. I am going to be heart broken to leave. I love my job and my coworkers I can’t imagine life without them. Everyday at work I enjoy being around such caring and generous people. If I ever were to work for the Walt Disney Company again I would definitely want to venture out to new areas but if I worked for WDW I would want to stay at my home location. I got super super lucky with my role. Everyday is easy, rarely ever stressful, everyone is super nice, I have fun literally everyday.

At first, I wanted a role in the parks, but now I see how lucky I got. People in the parks are always in a bad mood, they are tired, they are annoyed, they payed good money to be there and if things don’t go their way they take it out on the cast members. Where I work everyone is super rich because it is the most expensive hotel on Disney property so they tend to be very nice. They always buy everything and money is never an issue. It makes me laugh when someone will buy 10 smart waters for like $40 instead of a pack of smart waters at the store for like $8. I love seeing little girls dressed as princesses come in to order food it makes me so happy. 9/10 times the guests are super friendly, of course there is a small precent of rude people but that would be anywhere really. All my coworkers are so friendly too. I have made such a great group of friends. We go to Wawa every night after our closing shift. All four of them are always there for me and make me feel so loved. I am so happy to have them in my life.

If anyone asked me if I recommend the program I would say yes. It is a toll on your body though, I work extremely hard and barely make enough money to buy groceries if I want to go out and have fun. My best advice would be to take advantage of everything they offer. I did a backstage tour of the new Star Wars Hotel and it was awesome. I wish I had signed up for more backstage tours of the rides I just never found the time, but I should have. Overall, I think the program has helped me grow more as a person than almost any other experience of my life, other than maybe me moving across country for the first time completely by myself. I am so blessed to have had this opportunity and I would encourage anyone interested to look into it and apply!! It really was the best decision I ever made.

Family Visiting

This past week was probably one of the greatest times of my life. All my hard work led up to this. My mom hasn’t been to DisneyWorld in over 15 years. She loves Disney but was just never able to afford it. With my college program, I was able to get 4 free tickets into the park, with my own money able to buy 2 more, and with the help of a friend able to get 2 more free tickets. This gave me a total of 8 free tickets which gave us a total of 4 park days together as a family, my mom, sister and I. I also got a 50% off discount at the hotel we stayed at and was able to find a super cheap flight for them to fly all the way from Nevada to Florida.

We did everything together, I took them on every ride, I took them to my work, and we spend so much quality time together. I made so many memories with them that I will never forget. I cherished every moment with them, I hadn’t seen them since the first week of January so I missed them greatly. It was so amazing to see my moms reactions to new experiences. I got to take them both on some of my favorite rides and seeing their smile made my entire life worth living. They were so grateful for all that I did for them and I was so lucky and blessed to have been able to basically take care of half their trip. I also payed for a super nice meal at a restaurant in the parks that I would’ve never been able to afford before. It was expensive but because of my job, I had the money for it. It made me feel good being able to take care of them.

Of all people who have visited me, I think I am the most grateful for these two. Taking time off work and school to see me. It was incredibly difficult to put all this together but in the end it all worked out and I am so happy that it did. I hope someday in the future I’ll be able to take them again but next time cover everything. Not a single penny out their pocket. But for now I am so grateful for the many opportunities I have had to be able to treat my family to a wonderful vacation.

Final Post!

Excited to be wrapping my last Internship Post. Tomorrow is my last day of being an intern at Details Flowers Software. I’ll be taking off a few weeks to graduate, go home and visit family, and just overall take some time for myself after such a full semester (we all deserve a break sometimes). Towards the end of May, I will be returning to the company as a full time employee!

This internship has strengthened my overskills in social media, marketing, customer service, design, SEO, and mostly importantly, given my such a huge insight into the workflow of a company.

Today and tomorrow I will just spend some time wrapping up the smaller projects I took on as an intern and organizing my drive, my work space and files to take on the full time role.

In conclusion, I actually wish I had taken on an internship earlier on in college. While I am not saying that experience is necessarily greater than education, I firmly believe they SHOULD go hand in hand!

Final Weeks of Internship

The past couple of weeks of this internship have gone really well, I ended up creating content for Friday videos since they were taking a break from their podcast. Three of my videos have even gotten really high views. My video from April 20th has 308.8k views right now, video from April 21st has 27.6k views on TikTok. One of my videos on Instagram is at 40,042 views. This internship has really allowed me to practice creating videos for social media and trying different hashtags to see what gets the most views.

I am going to miss having this internship because I have really enjoyed being able to see the results on how the videos are doing. Having access to an account that has a big following and see the views.

The last few weeks of my internship have been very productive. I have done a lot of video editing work. My supervisor reached out and said that one of our bands, Now More Than Ever needed help editing their music videos so they could be in a vertical format so they could share on Tiktok and Reels. I downloaded the files to the group’s four music videos off of our company’s shared drive and started editing. I have converted horizontal videos to vertical before but I have only edited them to 15-30 second clips. What was different about this project is that the band requested that the entire music video be converted to vertical. This was actually quite challenging because the group’s music videos have a lot of things happening in them and when cropped you miss a lot of what is happening. However, I was able to find a solution to this and it was to use keyframes to help shift the view to whatever is in focus. I usually use premiere pro for edits but for this project, since I am creating content for Tiktok I used the app Capcut and I found their keyframe feature very simple to use. I made two types of vertical cuts for the 4 music videos, one was zoomed in full screen using keyframes and the other was the background kind of blurred and the video zoomed out so you could see everything without keyframes. The band loved the videos and were excited to share them. Another task I’ve done these last few weeks was do promotions for Record Store Day. Record Store Day is a big event where independent Record stores get exclusive releases. For this RSD the ambassador was our very own Jason Isbell, we had several artists performing at local stores, and two vinyl releases so I made a few different posts to promote this day. The first was a post on our feed dedicated to our two vinyl releases which were a Jason Isbell record, and a SonVolt Record. I also posted the official ambassador video Jason made. In addition to those feed posts, I designed a schedule highlighting all of the in-store performances our artists had that day. All of those posts did great engagement-wise. In addition to that, I attended the regular meetings and worked on our New Music Friday stories, I also created vinyl mockups for one of our artists, and for my last week I will be working on updating their website. This has been such a great internship and I am very grateful for the experiences and connections I have made.

For the 11th week of my internship I met with my supervisor again, this time it was on Zoom. We discussed the social media idea documents I created the week prior. He really liked all my ideas and we started to come up with a plan to make things work. A big thing we are working on is posting more on our stories. We want to post multiple times a week day sharing things that relate to our artists whether it’s things like a song that is releasing, a tour announcement, a positive press post, late-night tv appearances, and more. I actively monitor the social media pages of our acts each day to see what they are up to and I text my supervisor the things I think we should highlight, then we create a story post about it. We are also focusing on interacting with artist accounts more and sharing their posts and tagging them in our to help boost views and engagement. This new format has been working well so far and lots of artists have been sharing our posts and we have gained lots of engagement through this method. When we post on our main feed it is mainly to highlight the albums that are released that week, however, we are working on other things to post there as well, like reels showcasing new music videos or live performances. A big part of our social media posting is our New Music Friday Stories where I make custom graphics promoting the music that we release that week. Every post I do for NMF includes the artist’s name, picture, song, or album name, and a link to listen to. I really try each week to make an eye-popping design to catch people’s attention. In addition to working on social media that week, I also attended our weekly company-wide meeting. I am feeling excited about the way things are working out for our social media channels.

For the 10th week of my internship at Thirty Tigers, I was introduced to my new supervisor. The week prior the two supervisors that I was previously working with had exited the company. I now work with the head of distribution for the company. We met that Monday afternoon on a phone call and had an hour-long conversation about ideas for future work. A big part of our phone call was about what can we do to boost our social media presence. He said he wants our content to be very accessible and natural and less sales based. We brainstormed a bunch of ideas for posts and stories that would be more engaging. He also discussed how he wants me to be more involved with the company and he will keep me updated on what’s happening with our current campaigns. After that great phone call, I felt very excited about my work with my new supervisor and could tell that we are going to work well together. That week I began to go through the social media schedule doc I made with my last supervisor and began to make edits and revisions based on the ideas discussed in our phone call. Then I began to do some research on social media sites on companies similar to ours and tracked what did well on those pages. I made another document dedicated to inspiration for our social media channels and I scheduled another meeting with my supervisor on Zoom for the following week to go over these documents.

Last Week: Proposal & OneBeat

This was my last week interning for ACA! On Tuesday, I helped Bethany paint over many of her old canvases so she can reuse them in the future. Afterwards, we spent awhile brainstorming emails to various people to figure out next steps for our project involving the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. We had already drafted an email to the management at the trail, but needed to contact Nancy (who is the head of ACA) and Eve to address specifics and ask advice. Bethany showed me a bit of what goes into drafting a proposal for a project such as this and explained the importance of collaborating. In this case, many other people may have ideas or other pertinent information that could influence our proposal, so while we did create a draft, more discussion needs to happen before it can be submitted. Even afterwards, discussion will continue as more specifics are decided on. She is also going to try to find a grant that can help fund this project or try to partner with a group in Volusia that focuses on preservation. Bethany sent me a copy of our proposal draft that I will be including in my portfolio.

On Wednesday, I drove over to Beachside Rehabilitation Center since a few members of the group of improvisational musicians called “OneBeat” was putting on a small concert there. These musicians are currently visiting ACA and although they had only been together for a few days, were able to play together harmoniously. I was honestly so impressed by how well they blended their sounds with no planning! Each of them had a very unique instrument and showed everyone what instrument they used. Each one on its own was beautiful, but hearing them come together was exceptional. The patients who were there also thoroughly enjoyed the performance and stayed very engaged. Many of them commented on how beautiful the music was and asked for a recording. Seeing them smiling was so impactful since they don’t often get experiences like this.

Although my official internship has ended, I will still be helping finish up some of our projects moving forward. I am very excited to see how they will turn out and have been apart of them.
