Google Cardboard – VR

We have added two Google Cardboard kits to our rentable equipment!

Google Cardboard is a virtual reality (VR) platform developed by Google for use with a head mount for a smartphone. Named for its fold-out cardboard viewer, the platform is intended as a low-cost system to encourage interest and development in VR applications.

The hardware side of Google Cardboard uses low-cost viewers, with the reference design made of foldable cardboard (hence the name,) 45mm plastic lenses and a magnet or capacitive-taped lever to operate the screen. Once you get everything folded into the right configuration (most kits come pre folded and assembled) you slip your phone into the front of the viewer (usually held in place by Velcro or rubber bands) and run an app designed to work with Cardboard.

  • VRSE – documentary films
  • Roller Coaster VR – a VR roller coaster experience

Glow-In-The-Dark 3D Printing

Get ready for Halloween this year with our 3D Printers! The Innovation Lab is offering 3D Printing with Glow-In-The-Dark Blue filament. This means that you can print out your very own spooky items, such as Skeletons, Frankenstein’s, Pumpkins, Ghosts, and more! If you have never used a 3D Printer before, just stop in and ask for either Tony or Bryan and they’ll get you started!

Be sure to come in before the Glow-In-The-Dark filament runs out, because once it’s gone…It’s gone!

Banned Books Week

The du-Pont Ball Library is proud to support Banned & Challenged Books Week (September 25 – October 1, 2016). This is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read.  Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — organizations and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. The du-Pont Ball Library will have a display of books that have been deemed “controversial” and we hope you will take the time to browse through the selection we offer, as well as check any out to read for yourself. We look forward to celebrating freedom of speech as expressed in the books that have been challenged over the years.
