Please FIX THE WI-FI in this library!!! We want to be able to study here.
Response:
As you may know, the library doesn't control the wireless network, of course – that is IT – but we work closely with IT to ensure it is working properly. Staff from IT have been in the library MANY times trying to improve the wireless coverage in the building.
We work regularly to try to adjust the Wi-Fi to get the best coverage possible. We have done entire “sweeps” of the building using a laptop with Wi-Fi speed tests. As a result of those tests, IT has made adjustments, and continues to make adjustments when students tell us a particular area in which they are getting a weak/no signal. In November, IT programmed and installed a new Access Point (AP) on the East side of the library near the two big TVs. Earlier this year, IT relocated and/or replaced other APs.
We currently have an open ticket with IT asking them to do check the Wi-Fi connectivity in the building to identify and improve Wi-Fi throughout the library building. Unfortunately, they have not responded (as of 12/6/22).
Bottom line, we are regularly working on this issue. We pride ourselves on providing a stress-free, hassle-free library environment for our students, and we know the Wi-Fi issues are not conducive to those goals.

If we could add more of her books to the library inventory that would be great. Thanks.
Response: I’ll send your suggestion to Collections Management personnel.
As you can see from our Collection Development Policy the goal of the library is to support the educational programs of the University. Public Libraries typically have robust popular reading selections to meet the needs of community members and would likely have almost all the titles from Reese’s Book Club. That said, we de collect some popular literature, including titles that are selected for Reese’s or Oprah’s Book Clubs. I believe we use a variety of best sellers lists to make guide those decisions.

For the individual study rooms, I think that having a canister of wipes for the table would be useful.
Sometimes the tables are very dirty and have finger prints, food stains, etc. Many times I get napkins from the restroom and wet them with water to wipe down the table.
Having wipes would help prevent the spread of germs and keep those who use the study rooms less likely to get sick. (Many students use these spaces and having wipes can cut down on the spread of diseases/sickness)

Thanks for your suggestion about having wipes available in the study rooms. If you ask at the front desk for a Lysol wipe or a disinfecting wipe, we can provide one.

Until then, please use the 24/7 area of the library. Room 15L has computers and a printer. Room 8 is for group study. And the Sensory Garden in the Nemec Courtyard has become a popular study spot.

Good evening! I was recently looking for some fiction books to enjoy and I came to the realization that they were lacking and the books that were present were older in year. I was curious if there was any way to get more Rick Riordan, Cassandra Clare, John Green, Holly Black, Rainbow Rowell, Maggie Stiefvater, etc. Thank you so much for your time!
Response:
Yes. We have some, but certainly not all, of the books written by the authors in your list. For example, the most recently published Rick Riordan book in Stetson's library is
The Hammer of Thor from 2016.
We don't have any Cassandra Clare books available for check out.
The library has most of John Green's books. They're in the Young Adult section on the 2nd floor.
The fault in our stars
Will Grayson, Will Grayson
Turtles all the way down

Looking for Alaska
We just have one book by Holly Black: Doll bones from 2013.
The library has two books by Rainbow Rowell. Eleanor & Park from 2013. The 2018 book, Fangirl is currently on the New Books shelves on the main floor.
And finally, the library has two Maggie Stiefvater books -- one is in the Young Adult section and the other is in the Juvenile section.

Can a plastic recycling bin go inside the library? There is one outside, but I don't want to have to walk outside every time. Plus, have one inside would encourage more people to recycle. Please & thank you!

One of our main concerns with plastic recycling receptacles inside is that they may draw bugs. That said, the library does want to help people reduce, reuse, and recycle.
We have installed water bottle filling water fountains on all floors. We have new printer release printers that have an option to force a print job to be double-sided. The university switched to LED lights about a year ago.
We will look into getting something that can help keep bugs to make it easier to recycle plastic inside the building!

2. Search the library catalog by title or author. Not sure who to search for? Use a bestseller list or a recommended reading list.
3. If you want to browse, know that we organize the collection using the Library of Congress Classification system. Here's what you should know about browsing the fiction shelves in the library.
The P call numbers are the Language and Literature books. If you're looking for books by American authors, written between 1961 and 2000, they're in PS 3550-3576. Books by American authors written since 2001, will be in PS 3600-3626. For example, Roxanne Gay's novelDifficult Women has the call number PS 3607 .A985725 A6 2017.

Response: Thanks for your suggestion. When the Celebration campus first opened, it included a library branch. I’m not sure how long it was there, but it closed because wasn’t economically feasible to keep it open.
The duPont-Ball Library supports graduate students in a number of ways. Our Services for Grad Students page outlines those services. It includes a recorded webinar for Business Graduate Students. We also have a number of Research Guides, organized by subject, that link to relevant databases, journals, and provide research help contact information. We recognize that you can’t just pop into the library on your way to class, so we make our databases, online journals, and eBooks available off-campus (connection instructions). We also provide access to physical library materials by mail to Celebration and distance students and faculty. And research librarians are available by phone, text, email to discuss your research needs, provide tips on using licensed databases, recommend relevant research tools, and so on. You can also make a research consultation appointment with us to talk by phone or Skype.

Full Suggestion: Here's a radical idea! It's simple and would solve a real problem. The paper towel dispensers in the men's restroom are fastened to the wall shared by the East Room Computer Lab, typically a nice quiet space with the exception of the awful noise made every time a man pulls down and tears a paper towel. It can be disruptive if not accustomed to it. The towel dispensers could be moved and attached to a different wall, perhaps one on the right side of the vanity and one of the door. Perhaps even bolted to the partition of the handicap stall. Anywhere but the Restroom/East room wall. Anything to eliminate that random God awful noise. Thanks for consideration.
Response: I don't find your suggestion to be radical. I think it's wonderful!
I know the sound of which you speak. It's jarring. It's LOUD. It's unnecessary.
After reading your suggestion, I spoke with Sara our Custodian. She told me that the paper towel dispensers would be replaced in our building this summer. We talked about where the new dispenser might be placed so it's less disruptive. There aren't very many placement options, but Sara will do her best to help. Also, maybe the new dispensers will be quieter than the ones we have now. I remain hopeful.
UPDATE: The new dispensers have been installed and are no longer on the wall that is shared with the East Room.

I can use my login when loading through the library after I have located an article/book. I am not sure why I can't just start out with my login already in place. If our library defaults to EBSCO why wouldn’t it automatically be the same credentials? I have too many logins for the library.
Response: It's not necessary to set up an EBSCO account to use OneSearch* or the other EBSCO databases, so we won't be adding the EBSCO login to the library's home page. Those who choose to create an EBSCO account do it for the convenience of saving articles and search queries. If you're not saving articles, then you probably don't need an EBSCO account.
BTW, EBSCO is just one of the companies from which we license journals, magazines, newspapers, and other information sources. The library links out to over 200 databases and most of them provide the option to create an account. If we add a link to the EBSCO login, we'd need to add a link to the other database logins. It would be a long list.
You're absolutely right that we have too many usernames and passwords to remember in our lives. In fact, when I think about all my logins, it's like I'm on the highway to the danger zone.

Full Suggestion: I have heard from many people that the library instruction presentation that gets invited to many classes would be very helpful if it was introduced from the first couple weeks of school before you get your first research paper. There are a lot of things in FOCUS orientation that could definitely be dropped for something that would be more useful such as this. If you put students in the habit of using these resources from the beginning, they will have better research skills. I wish I would have known about it before my Junior year. I am a senior now writing my senior research paper and I am finding that this (RefWorks etc.) would have been way more useful if I was more familiar with it from my freshman year. Just a thought to consider.
Response: Thanks for your suggestion. I agree that library instruction is important. Students need many opportunities in their courses from first year to senior year to learn to collect, evaluate, and use scholarly information to create new knowledge.
My colleagues and I have been discussing our desire to be involved in FOCUS as a way to introduce new students to library services, spaces, and collections. Librarians work with First Year Seminar faculty to incorporate research skills into FSEM courses which includes a librarian visit to some FSEM sections. We’ll continue to do that, at the request of faculty, and will come up with some other strategies to be more visible during orientation. We’re also discussing how to make our individualized research services apparent to students. Our Ask-A-Librarian and Research Consultation services provide one-on-one support to students who need research help.
I’d love to hear from more students about the importance of library instruction to their success. Fill out a suggestion form on the library website or contact me directly at [email protected].

Full Suggestion: Pie during finals with the milk & cookies!
Response: If we are going to serve pie, then we have to change everything about the event. Pie and coffee go together. Introducing pie to milk and cookies will throw off the balance and natural order of things. You can have milk and cookies OR you can have pie and coffee. Having parts of both will cause a ripple in the space time continuum so great our very existence is at stake. The suggestion replier cannot allow this.

Full Suggestion: Please purchase the movie, Walt Before Mickey. Parts of it filmed here at Stetson and in Central Florida. Thanks!--Angela Story
Response: Hey, an Angela Story works in the library. I bet y'all's e-mail gets mixed up all the time. True story. The suggestion replier was asked to be an extra in some of the scenes from Walt Before Disney being filmed in Downtown DeLand. The suggestion replier was a bit over-booked that weekend, and further, the replier figured no amount of makeup, costumes, or soft focus could make him presentable for the camera. The suggestion replier politely passed on the opportunity. Your request will be passed on to our Acquisitions Department.

Full Suggestion: I suggest 50 Shades of Grey be removed from the content in the books and DVD collection. The book, and especially the movie, portrays rape culture-not the BDSM culture. It encourages and condones the act of sexual assault. She agrees to many sex acts because she's too afraid to say no or she doesn't want to lose him. This is not consent. This is not healthy. This is rape. I don't believe the book/movie should be promoted in our school library and community.
Response: Thank you for taking the time to submit a suggestion. I have not read “50 Shades of Grey,” but I have read criticism of the book that ranges from the quality of writing to the more serious allegations of misogyny and rape. This suggestion is similar to an earlier suggestion to remove The Cosby Show from the library’s collection in light of the sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby, and my response to your suggestion will repeat some of what I wrote in that earlier response. Your objection to the book and the reason to remove it from the collection is its depiction, not of consensual BDSM, but of rape, which is not only illegal but horrid, disgusting, and noxious. But libraries around the world are filled with works of art that depict other illegal acts like murder, theft, and assault and morally reprehensible acts of homophobia, racism, and misogyny. Removing works that depict illegal actions or contain morally questionable beliefs and ideas would leave many libraries almost bare. It leads to the question who gets to decide what is acceptable and not acceptable in art, literature, and any other element of society. The library does not have the right to decide for anyone what can or cannot be viewed or to create barriers to any works in the library. A library’s mission is to provide access to information. The individual library user must decide for him/herself how to best interact with that information. I think we as a society would do more good if we used episodes of objectionable behavior- however they may present themselves - to educate others, rather than banning or censoring that behavior. A few righteous people with passion and conviction can truly make a huge difference in the world.

It will be glassed in and have coffee, Coke, and vending machines. I think we could have a microwave too, but you have to promise the suggestion replier you will not put metal in a microwave. Full Suggestion: Take all the recycled paper print outs and stack them with blank side up with a sign that says "Note Taking Paper" or something like that. Maybe "Free Expression Paper." I always use these papers and staple them together to make a "new" notebook.--Ariel Zeig
Response: Ariel: We appreciate the creative ideas you have about recycled paper, especially "Free Expression Paper," and the library actually does some of these things. We have a basket of recycled paper sitting on the same table as the staplers, hole punch, and paper cutter. All of our "scratch" paper - the small pieces of paper we use to write down call numbers and the like - is cut from recycled paper. Unfortunately, we would not be able to stack all the recycled paper in the library. Library users go through a lot of paper - on average we collect 1-2 reams of paper per day of print jobs left behind - and trying to stack it all would not work. But feel free to go through our paper recycle bins and use what you like.

Full Suggestion: The Fault in Our Stars
Response: Hey, hey! What do you know? We own this movie. You can find the DVD in the Feature Film section under "Fault." Enjoy!
+ Read Suggestion
Full Suggestion: I am requesting the library pull the Cosby Show from circulation in our feature films collection. Given the recent and severe allegations of rape against Bill Cosby, I think it is inappropriate to leave the collection of his TV show available with other feature movies. As an institution of higher learning that takes sexual assault very seriously, allowing Bill Cosby's show to remain in general circulation is inconsistent with university values. This is not an effort to censor history, rather place it in proper context. If students wish to access the Cosby show, they ought to access it in a special collection that has a note explaining why it is not in the general movies section. The note should say the University sees the show as an item of historical, not entertainment value. There should be a section of the note that says the school stands against sexual assault.
Response: Thank you for taking the time to submit a suggestion on what is a very difficult topic. Not just sexual assault, which is vile and repugnant in all its forms, but what to do with the art (literature, films, music, paintings, etc.) created by individuals who commit heinous acts. Just a cursory glance of any library’s collection would reveal works in a multitude of genres and forms by racists, fascists, homophobes, sexists, rapists, and many other people who held detestable beliefs and committed atrocious acts. To remove these works from a library’s collection and place them in a special, presumably removed from public view, section would be to remove some of the greatest works of art and scholarship from around the world. Further, and perhaps more importantly, by segregating these works the library would be removing agency from its patrons on how to best interact with these works. If you as a library patron find Bill Cosby’s alleged actions to be so terrible that you never wish to view an episode of The Cosby Show again, then you have every right to never watch another episode. Others, however, may come to different conclusions involving the entertainment value of the show. The library does not have the right to decide for anyone what can or cannot be viewed or to create barriers to any works in the library. A library’s mission is to provide access to information. The individual library user must decide for him/herself how to best interact with that information. As for your suggestion about placing a note in the record stating Stetson University stands against sexual assault, I think a better alternative would be for people to work to make the world free from sexual assault. If we all put our energies in to making real world changes, then we all could change the world.

Full Suggestion: The Office (TV) Wolf Hall (TV)
Response: Are you suggesting the suggestion replier have an office in Wolf Hall? If so, then the suggestion replier completely agrees. Oh, these are TV shows. As for The Office, we do not buy TV shows unless requested by a faculty member for a class. TV shows can have long runs and take up a large amount of space. Wolf Hall, though, is a mini-series with historical value, and the suggestion replier thinks he can convince the Acquisitions Department to purchase a copy. Who isn't a fan of Henry VIII? Okay, a lot of people.

Full Suggestion: Miss Saigon (1989)
Response: The suggestion replier thinks you are referring to the Broadway cast recording released in 1989. The suggestion replier will pass this along to the Acquisitions Department, but he finds it difficult to hide his disdain for musicals. The theatre is about exploring what it means to be human and experiencing raw emotion. All they do in musicals is sing and dance in shiny costumes. So while this CD makes its way to the library, the suggestion replier recommends reading some plays by Harold Pinter, Sheila Callaghan, and Eugene Ionesco, just to name a few.

However, I would like to make a suggestion, or a request, or both I guess in an effort to improve the selection of good resources. I have been studying the subject of ‘Justice’ for the past two years, and I have read nearly every book on the topic of justice in this library’s political philosophy section, while there are plenty of good books on the subject I feel this library should acquire the work of Michael Sandel, who is the most prominent contemporary author on ‘justice’. We really need to have his book Justice: what is the right thing to do on the selves.

Full Suggestion: Have a dedicated physical section of self-help books.
Response: After doing some searching I discovered, unlike public libraries, self-help books do not have one section in the Library of Congress classification scheme. (Public libraries organize their books using a different system than academic libraries.) Self-help books can be found in the BF, HV, and RC sections depending on the subject. If you are looking for self-help books on a specific topic, then we can more easily direct you to a book that will meet your needs.
As for physical books, for the past several years the duPont-Ball Library has made a concerted effort to purchase only e-books for our collection. This is typical of most academic libraries today. Why? The library has a space crunch, and e-books do not use any physical space in the library. Purchasing e-books also allows us to keep our collection very current. Not to mention changes in publishing models and an ever increasing demand for electronic resources. Plus, an e-book can be accessed anytime and from anywhere as long as it is not checked out.

Full Suggestion: The spy series Archer is great. Could we get it here in the library on DVD?
Response: We generally do not buy a TV series unless requested by a faculty member for a class. There are so many of them and they tend to take up a lot of space. You may be very disappointed in this answer, but before you go on your own Terms of Enrampagement, try taking out your frustrations on Woodhouse.

Full Suggestion: We need more books on slavery in the U.S. There are barely any books on it in general. It is very disappointing. Thanks!
Response: I am very sorry you were not able to find resources you needed for your research. Doing a few quick searches on a couple of subject headings related to slavery in the United States I found several hundred items including print books, e-books, videos, and other various other formats. Perhaps one of our research librarians would be able to help you. Please call one of our reseach librarians using the phone number and during the hours provided on the Research Services page. stetson.edu/library/departments_reference.php

Full Suggestion: I often stay late at the library to study. I also tend to do a lot of studying on Fridays (to get ahead). Could the library stay open late on Fridays. (Say to 9 PM instead of 5 PM?) Thank you.
Response: We appreciate your hard work and using the library as a place to study. The library does have extended Friday hours during finals, staying open until 1:00 am. As for the rest of the semester, our studies have shown there is not enough use of the library during evening/night hours on Fridays to justify staying open later. The computer lab downstairs of the library is open 24 hours a day.

Full Suggestion: Please purchase 'Fire & Desire' by Brenda Jackson
Response: Here is a snippet of Amazon.com's description of the book: 'If only his broad shoulders and wickedly sexy smile didn't send her senses into flames.' I am not sure this fits into our collection development plan, but I will pass the suggestion along to our Acquisitions staff. Thank you for using the library.

Once Barry Manilow is done raiding the closet of the Acquisitions staff, I will pass this suggestion along to them.

Full Suggestion: Please subscribe to the journal Food and Foodways
Response: I will pass this suggestion along to the Acqusitions staff, but please understand sunscribing to a journal is not the same as buying a book. A subscription is a recurring cost which usually increases each year. The library can not simply subscribe to a year here or there; a periodical or database subscription requires a long-term commitment from the library. If you need articles from a journal to which the library does not subscribe, then you may request those articles through Interlibrary Loan.

Full Suggestion: What's the Worst That Could Happen?; A Series of Unfortunate Events; Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
Response:
The library did own a copy of A Series of Unfortunate Events, but it appears the copy was lost. We generally try to buy replacement items for lost or damaged materials. I will pass this suggestion along with the other two titles to our dedicated Acquisitions staff.
PS: We own the Lemony Snicket A Series of Unfortunate Events book series. They are located in the Juvenile section on the library's main floor. They all start with the call number PZ7.S6795"

Full Suggestion: Would the library please purchase a copy of Charles Terry's The Four-Part Chorals of J.S. Bach?

Full Suggestion: Can we get an electric stapler for the circulation desk? The manual ones are always jamming.
Response:
Ah, the stapler saga. I will repeat the answer I gave in October below. Let me tell you a little story about students and staplers.... We have tried electric, we have tried heavy duty, we have tried every conceivable type of stapler known to man. But no stapler has ever been a match for the pounding of the Stetson student. The electrics just didn't hold up at all... probably because too many people try to staple papers that are just too thick for an electric.
So I'm afraid that you are stuck with whatever we can find that works. Please remember that we provide the stapler, hole punch, paper cutter, etc., for our students' convenience and we hope you find them useful.

Full Suggestion: I loved the movie Dirty Dancing. The library's copy is missing, can we buy another one? Please order P.S. I Love You.
Response: (Dirty Dancing) Typically we wait a year to replace a missing item, but since Dirty Dancing is such a popular movie, we will pass along the suggestion to our Acquisitions Staff. (P.S. I Love You) Funds for popular movies are limited, but we do buy based on suggestions. We will pass this along to our Acquisitions Staff. (Entourage) We generally do not buy TV series unless requested by a faculty member for a class. There are so many of them and they tend to take up a lot of space. Thank you for the suggestions. PS--Seriously, y'all, stop watching so many rom coms and start reading more books. The library has a ton of 'em.

Full Suggestion: I would love to see the library, if funds are available, purchase the full collection of James Bond movies, please.
Response: Funds for popular movies are limited, but we do buy based on suggestions and the Bond franchise is a rather iconic series. I'll pass this on to our acquisitions staff. Thank you for the suggestion.

Full Suggestion: The library should offer cultural credit if a student checks out a certain movie or book from an (approved) list and write a short summary about it. That way, students can get cultural credit on their own time!
Response: Students can earn some 'make-up' cultural credits by watching designated videos in Media Services. Cultural credit, however, is designed to encourage students to participate in the many wonderful events that go on at Stetson. We have some great speakers come to campus to lecture on a variety of topics and students should take advantage of hearing some of those visitors. Cultural credit is also available for many 'experiential' opportunities offered here. So while I appreciate your suggestion, I would rather leave the book and movie viewing to students for their own enjoyment and encourage you to take part in all that Stetson has to offer - for credit! These opportunities are part of a well-rounded liberal arts education - and they will be harder to come by once you leave school. Enjoy!

Full Suggestion: Can the library please acquire more juvenile books on history, science, and popluar figures? They are more concise and easier to help with research.
Response: If you are asking for more juvenile books in these subject areas, we will take a look and see if we need to beef up those areas. If you are asking us to buy juvenile books to support college-level research, however, that is not something we would support. We have a broad collection of books, reference books, ebooks, and tens of thousands of full-text journal titles to help you with your research. And if you are struggling with sources, please ask a librarian for help. Follow Up: We have just ordered more Juvenile history books. We will soon be adding more Juvenilescience and biography.

Full Suggestion: Bewitched, Series of Unfortunate Events

Full Suggestion: Aladdin, Jungle Book, Lords of Dogtown, Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Monk Seasons.
Response: I am guessing you are asking for us to buy these titles in movie format rather than in book format. We have a great juvenile book collection and we do own some of these titles. And not sure what you mean by 'Monk Seasons' - are you asking for the TV show Monk? We generally do not buy television series, although we have made a few exceptions. I will pass these suggestions on to our Acquisitions staff.

Full Suggestion: "Stay open later!!!
Response: We do, of course, regularly get this suggestion. We moved our closing time from midnight to 1:00 am a couple of years ago in response to students asking for later hours. We do periodic building counts to see how many students are in the building at 1:00 am and there are not many. We realize that a very few people would use the library at any hour that we might be open. We have to balance what's best for our students with the cost effectiveness of keeping a building this size open and staffed in the middle of the night. We may get the funding to do that at some point, but we are not there at this time.

Full Suggestion: Please make clear the library's policy against obscene, pornographic, or lascivious materials.
Response: We have a clear Internet Use policy at http://stetson.edu/library/policies.php. It states: The duPont-Ball Library workstations are provided for educational and professional purposes only. Please be aware that the library does not use blocking or filtering software and that certain Internet sites can be accessed that may be inappropriate for minors. All users are expected to use our Internet connections in an appropriate manner, abiding by all applicable federal, state, and local laws and by the following which are subject to change: Stetson University Information Technology Policies Library Conduct Policy Stetson University Computing Codes of Conduct (Connections Handbook) which reads in part: Sexual harassment of any type will not be tolerated in the computer labs. Examples of sexual harassment may include, but are not limited to: sexual battery, displaying pornographic images, verbal harassment or abuse of a sexual nature, cyber-sex or chatroom sex, subtle pressure for sexual activity, etc.
If you see someone who you believe is engaging in inappropriate use of the computers in the library, please report it to the front desk. You do not have to identify yourself.+ Read Suggestion
Full Suggestion: Please monitor people bringing in dogs, maybe only allow vested service dogs. Otherwise it is a cause of distraction or maybe discomfort.
Response: We are a pet-friendly campus with a residential 'pet dorm' so we allow well-behaved dogs in the library. If any dog is acting in an aggressive or disturbing manner, however, please report this to the front desk immediately.

Full Suggestion: Maybe allow for a 'keep safe' area behind the Circulation Desk for valuables. You could use a check-in/out system.
Response: We really do not have the space behind the circulation desk to store valuables nor do we want to take on the liability for protecting personal property. This is a good opportunity to remind everyone not to leave valuables sitting unattended at tables or workstations. A little bit of common sense goes a long way as we consider the library a safe environment.

Full Suggestion: GMAT books to prepare business students for grad school admission exams.
Response: We do have ebooks on the GMAT. Search the library's catalog for 'GMAT' in the TITLE and you'll find them. Once you pull up the record, click on URL to pull the book up. We find that trying to buy print books is not practical - it is hard to stay updated and only one student at a time can use a reference book in the library building.
We also have a free GMAT database in which you can set up an account and take practice tests at your pace. Click on DATABASES BY TITLE on the library's home page and then click on GMAT Practice Tests in the alphabetical list of databases. The GMAT database includes two prep books - 'GMAT: Master the GMAT' and 'Ultimate GMAT Tool Kit.' Also in the alpha list are GRE Practice Tests, LSAT Practice Tests, and MCAT Practice Tests. Happy studying.

Full Suggestion: Is there any way to get the Song of Fire and Ice books by George R.R. Martin. AKA The Game of Throne books? And maybe the DVDs?
Response: We have A Dance with Dragons (PS 3563 .A7239 D36 2011), but at the moment it is unreturned and missing. We will see about a replacement. There are four other books in the series, with another on the way. Given the popularity of the tv show, we can buy those. Full Suggestion: 50 Shades of Grey, please.
Response: I've been wondering how long it would take to get this suggestion. Ok, we'll buy it because of the giant hype surrounding it. Here's an excerpt from one book review: 'Having no further background than the porno reference, I was stunned - shocked - at what waited in the pages before me. Not because of the explicit sex scenes, but rather the terribly underdeveloped protagonist, the unrealistic storyline - and above all else, the bitterly disappointing message this novel sends to all women about the value of love within a relationship.' Have to say I think that assessment is dead on, but, HEY, I just like when people read, so if you want to read this, more power to you. Watch the catalog for its arrival.

Response: Thanks for the suggestions. I am passing them on to our Associate Dean, Debbi Dinkins, who is in charge of acquisitions. We have a set of criteria for subscribing to journals: relevance to the curriculum, peer-review status, pricing, format, etc. which means these may or may not be good subscriptions for us.But we take such suggestions from our students seriously and we will look into the titles.
