Mask & Drawstring Bag Workshop

In these workshops, attendees will use the sewing machine to create a personalized mask or drawstring bag. The workshop will be held within the lobby area of our Innovation Lab where this workstation is located. Using materials that are provided, they will learn to use the sewing machine to produce either of these 2 projects. After completing one of these projects, a demonstration of using the Cricut machine will enable attendees to customize their mask/drawstring bag even further with iron-on (heat transfer) vinyl.

Due to space restrictions, a registration is required to attend any of the offered workshops. All workshops will have a maximum of 3 registrants. You must use a Stetson e-mail to register. Click link to view and register for this workshop.

To apply:

  1. Fill out the online entry form.
  2. Upload a copy of your paper in Word or pdf format.
  3. Deadline for submissions: MARCH 19, 2021

Read all of the prize winning papers here.

Both Research Prizes are open to all students who as a first-year student completed a research paper during the last calendar year (spring, summer, or fall semesters 2020).

The contest is sponsored by the duPont-Ball Library to encourage the thorough, effective, creative, and ethical uses of research resources. $200 in prizes may be awarded for each prize.

The Evans C. Johnson Research Prize may be awarded each spring to a student who as a first-year student during the previous calendar year completed a research paper that shows thorough, effective, creative, and ethical uses of the library and research resources.

The monetary award is given by an anonymous donor in memory of Dr. Evans C. Johnson, Stetson University Professor of History 1953-1997. Dr. Johnson required students to illustrate effective use of research resources in papers for his courses, and this award is designed to reward such scholarship. In addition to the monetary award, the winner will receive an engraved plaque.

The R. Neil Scott Research Prize may be awarded each spring to a student who as a first-year student during the previous calendar year completed a research paper that shows thorough, effective, creative, and ethical uses of the library and research resources. The R. Neil Scott Prize will give preference to papers dealing with the general themes of business or economics.

The monetary award is given in memory of Stetson alumnus and former Stetson librarian, R. Neil Scott, MBA,’82. In addition to the monetary award, the winner will receive an engraved plaque.

The winner(s) will be notified in April. Winners will be asked to submit copies of their papers in WORD format for the library’s website.

Introducing Gallery duPont

(Photographs by Matt Roberts)

Did you know the duPont-Ball Library now has an art gallery?

Gallery duPont was created as part of our strategic plan to update and revitalize the feel and functionality of library spaces. Adding art creates a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for our patrons. The exhibition space is an exciting opportunity to engage with students in a fresh way. The gallery will feature rotating exhibits from Stetson’s art collection, current students, alumni, faculty, and visiting artists. Our current show, Florida: Ghosts and Dreams, consists of two bodies of photographic work by Matt Roberts (Associate Professor of Digital Arts). The exhibit is on display now through March 28th.

For those looking for cultural credit, you are in luck. Cultural credit will be offered for each exhibition, available for the duration of each show. Look for the QR code in the gallery to access an online form. Answer the questions on the form for cultural credit.

Gallery duPont is located on the second floor of the library. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the gallery and our shows, stop by the front desk and ask for our curator, Matt Garrett.
