Library Wifi Update September 10, 2023

The networking team in I.T. upgraded the Wi-Fi in the library building this summer. They ran cat6 network cable to all areas requiring the installation of new wireless access points (APs).

An electrical contractor installed conduit in all areas where there is no drop-ceiling requiring network cables to be run in those places.

Stetson I.T. programmed and installed new APs and upgraded the existing older APs, following the recommendations from the wireless survey completed during the Spring semester.

Now that the new APs are installed and working, I.T. will work to refine AP functionality to provide the best wireless experience possible at the library.

The networking team in I.T. is actively working to upgrade the Wi-Fi in the library building this summer. There are several steps to getting this done correctly.

During the spring semester, a third-party company completed a wireless survey. They evaluated the Wi-Fi and provided recommendations for changes needed to improve the end-user Wi-Fi experience in the library.

This week, I.T. got a quote for running cat6 network cable to all areas requiring the installation of new wireless access points (APs).

Next, an electrical contractor will provide a quote for the cost to install conduit in all areas where there is no drop-ceiling requiring network cables to be run in those places. After reviewing the quotes and getting approval, I.T. will schedule dates for contractors to perform the work.

After the contractors’ work is completed, Stetson I.T. will program and install new APs and upgrade the existing older APs that are currently running in the library, following the recommendations from the wireless survey. Once the new APs are installed and working, I.T. will work to refine AP functionality to provide the best wireless experience possible at the library.

Be assured that, though there are many steps to getting this done properly, Stetson I.T. is working to get the Wi-Fi improved before the fall semester begins.
